Trip Report: Perry’s Lookdown to Blue Gum Forest

Introduction

Over the June long weekend we decided to head out into the Blue Mountains and enjoy a hike. It’s a well-known fact that our love of the outdoors and adventure is all encompassing, but this hard-graded track certainly proved to be a fun challenge.

We met up with our good friends Tony and Alan at the trail head around midday and right out of the gate Mitch took the Jetboil gas out from his pack and left it behind by accident. This didn’t dampen our spirits, however, and we did have a terrific time due to the fact we didn’t forget our bladder of wine and terrific food!

The hike down from Perry’s Lookdown is very tough on the legs, but we set off quickly and hiked down to the Acacia Flats camp ground. We hiked in and set up a basic camp in around 2 hours and some of us raced off to Junction Rock for a quick photo on the iconic Blue Mountains spot!

After setting up camp and doing a little more exploring it was time to eat, drink and be merry! The evening was topped of with Tony and Alan singing us some amazing songs, many, many laughs by the fire, and a generally great time enjoying each others company.

The hike out is every bit as hard as the hike in and the next day was taxing, but uninteresting. We made a slow consistent climb to the top of Perry’s Lookdown again and we were stoked to see that our vehicle was in tact and the weekend had gone without a hitch.

Trip Review

The hike is an awesome and challenging hike with amazing views, but the trip did not go off without a hitch. Some gear was forgotten at the trailhead, which is an easy mistake to avoid, and we did bite off a lot with this hike due to a lack of training.

Gear List

In future trip reports we plan on being gear-nerds and breaking down our entire gear list for each person, but we’re still putting together the lists for this hike. For the most part all gear performed well, links will come in soon.

Gear Notes

It’s very easy to forget gear at the trailhead.
